This object contrasts and complements particularly well with smooth white walls, cold-toned floors, organic or brutalist surroundings, offering a warm, illuminated character.
At ALBA, flour forms the base and quality ingredient for unusually good slices of sourdough pizzas. During flour production, spelt bran emerges as a by-product and consists of discarded grain parts like husks. It is often used as animal feed, can be added in small amounts as a dietary supplement, and more recently also finds application as disposable tableware. In this collaboration, spelt bran — sourced from ALBA's small, local producer "Altbachmuehle" in Switzerland — takes on a different role: Here, it's the key component for a limited number of wall sconces, exploring the by-product's potential as a natural resource for new biomaterials.
Materials NOM.0 spelt husk biomaterials, metal, ceramic
Color muted brown up to vibrant amber, depending on light
Fabrication Time: 4 weeks
Each piece is unique and slight differences in dimensions and aesthetic may appear.
